And now for something completely different…

March 28, 2011

Warcraft players, this post has nothing to do with anything in Azeroth… My apologies. I’ll probably post real content during the summer, but this pre-professional¬†thing seems to take a lot more work than I generally have time for. ¬†Blogs and such get neglected. For now enjoy a picture of a puppy, and try not to disown me to harshly, kay? When you’ve had three tests and a 4-hour field experience in one day, this sort of thing can preserve one’s sanity.

Okay, I’m silly.

Like, really really silly.

I’m silly about my dog. He’s a sheltie. He’s adorable, smart, athletic, sweet… but then, I could be anyone describing any sheltie. They’re just awesome. But this is a blog about a video game, so how do they overlap? Well, Nintendo just made their new 3DS system, and the new version of Nintendogs has shelties. v_v

Hence, the silliness referred to earlier.

Nintendogs has this feature where the 3DS acts as a pedometer, you start the game go “out” for a “walk”, and then put the system in standby, into your pocket, and then go about your business. The dog in the game “walks” with you through the pedometer feature and if you open it up every once in a while he/she will bring you little gifts lying on the sidewalk. In this manner, you can play a video game and take your pixel puppy for a walk while you take your real puppy for a walk; something my real puppy is thrilled to do.

The ‘prizes’ you get seem to vary with the number of steps you take before opening the machine, so in the interest of science and adding to the community knowledge base (and because the game is so new no one has really tip/info/cheat sites up yet; although the idea of min/maxing a virtual pet game is laughable), I am going to just keep this post up to keep track of what I get and how many steps it took to get there.

Nintendogs + Cats Pedometer Item List

10-99 Basic Biscuits (# Steps/10)
100-999 Upgraded Biscuits (Fish cookie, jerky,Cat grass, etc.) (# Steps/100)
1000 Plastic Bottle, Surprise Cookie, Stuffed Dog Toy, Leather Shoe, Piggy Bank, Premium Shampoo
2000 White Hibiscus Flower, Black Striped Bow
3000 Naptime Record, Surprise Beat Record
4000 ???
5000 Red Hat
6000 Scholar Glasses
7000 ???
8000 Feathered Green Cap
9000 ???
10000 Faux Leopard Collar, Glitzy Collar

Yep. I’m silly.

P.S.- I have no idea what “Surprise” Cookies do. Your dog gets a flowery sparkle when he/she eats it, but other than that? No idea. The tooltip is… very odd.

A new direction for now

January 28, 2010

Hello wonderful readers who either stumble upon this page or perhaps check it on occasion to see if anything has changed. A lot of things went down concerning guild and drama and all of those wonderfully awful things that can happen when you put a bunch of people who don’t really know each other on the internet and tell them to play nice.

The thing is, WoW was getting a little intense in the way that makes it bleed into RL so Etsu and I are taking a break for a little while. Who knows? Maybe we can learn how to get the dishes done in a timely manner!

In any case, we took the BIG step and canceled our accounts for now… though probably only for a few months. My hope is that by the time we get back the ol’ batteries will be recharged and I can actually deliver information on the weekly basis that is still promised in my “about” box. v_v

For now, should you be or have any interest in being a middle- or high school teacher, please feel free to visit the new blog I launched to document being a student teacher, CaSO4: Chalk|Dust.

In the meantime I wash you all lots of Triumph Badges and Frost Badges… and go take Arthas’ pony for me, alright?

TornadoI’m here to apologize for my spotty posting recently. Between sudden out-of-state trips for family emergencies and the remarkable number of violent storms across the midwest, it’s been hard for me to get things out on time. Heck, the last storm left about 1,000 people here without power for three days, our house included.

This is what I’m going to do. I’m going to start writing posts a week in advance and queuing them up so I always have something out by 10 am on Tuesday.

I’ll start by postponing this week’s post until next week, and I’ll always post on time from here on. Bear’s honor! So, be sure you come back next tuesday for another exciting installment of Going Bearfoot!

The Computer Fairy

On closer inspection it reads, “This barr gon fishin’, be back tamarah.”

Meet Angus. Angus is my computer now that Jack fell down and couldn’t get back up. In any case, Warcraft and it’s two expansions are installed and it’s necessary at this point to try to remember all the little add-ons that make life livable, and re-bookmark sites I’m not sure I remember anymore. I’m happy though, to have a functioning (although lobotomized) machine again.

With that, I leave you with Angus’ first screenshot:

ksodWell. I had a nice post all worked out for today but I’ve been greeted by a rather unwelcome visitor after attempting to update my video card driver. (If you have an nVidia card DO NOT update to 185.85 unless you absolutely have to. Checking around forums, 185.85 is the Russian Roulette of video drivers.)

See the picture at the top here? Add a white arrow to it and you have yourself the new and Vista-specific “KSOD” or Black Screen of Death. (BSOD was already taken. Joy.) Unfortunately, I could probably fix the KSOD by following the instructions in that link there, but I don’t actually have the Vista discs, just the “Gateway OS with Vista” discs for my computer. I can’t use them to run a command prompt, just do a total teardown on the comp. Really, I’m OK with this, except that there’s one file I need that isn’t backed up. ONE file but I NEED it. /sigh. Ah well.

In other words… my computer won’t start, I’m using Etsu’s computer for now, and updates will have to wait on functionality for now. See around later, people.

Mid-Week Mini Update

May 1, 2009

authenticatorwebI has an authenticator!

When WoW Insider posted last that the ordering for authenticators was opened again, I didn’t stop and make a “Furst! LOLz XD” post even though there were no comments yet, I booked it over to the Blizzard store and ordered one each for Etsugal and me. They came in the mail yesterday.*

I don’t have any personal experience having someone I know hacked and getting the guild bank raided or being stripped and deleted, but there are enough stores abound on the interwebs that I just got that paranoid about it.The stories of hackings don’t come from the cream of the crop, top of the PvP/Arena Ladder/Raiding players. Most come from guilds about the size of or a little bigger than the last few I was in. I haven’t done a /played lately, but the amount of my life spent in Warcraft truly shocks and awes me and I’d hate to loose all that.

In other news, I’ve gotten the raiding bug. I want to be doing stuff again, and I have no guild to do stuff with. At this point, I’m trying to decide if I want to start pugging things and hope for a good guild to come along, or transfer server to another place and start fresh. We’ll see.

* I may or may not have geeked out over the fact that I got mail from a return address that read “Activision Blizzard”. If I did it was in a completely calm and appropriate manner and didn’t invole anything embarassing. At ALL. >.>
